MEET THE TEAM

Cooke Opticians is an independent optical practice established in 1991. Having moved to a new premises in 2018, our current location on Stephen St, Sligo is bright, airy and modern. By putting your needs at the heart of what we do, we have built our reputation as a leading family Opticians. Our knowledge and experience is allowing us to serve three generations. By spending time with you in the consulting room, and investing in the latest technology, you can be assured that your eye care is our top priority.

Our aim is to keep your eyes healthy, while making sure you feel great in your eyewear.

 

Deirdre Cooke and team

PROPRIETOR

Deirdre Cooke

Deirdre qualified as an Optometrist in Dublin. Having worked in Galway for 2 years, she moved back home to Sligo to open her practice. Always passionate about progressing her optical expertise, Deirdre has a specific interest in Contact Lenses and Macular Degeneration. She has been involved in the award winning, national HSE pilot programme providing aftercare for post cataract patients, since its inception. Deirdre, along with Nuala and Tara has recently been awarded a qualification from Ulster University for the treatment and management of Minor Eye Conditions. Deirdre’s experience and leadership skills, industry knowledge and dedication to the profession makes Cooke Opticians the perfect choice for patients looking for professional eyecare.

OPTOMETRIST

Nuala

Nuala is a senior Optometrist with Cooke Opticians. She joined the practice in 2000 having qualified from Ulster University. Always keen to upskill, she has done numerous further courses, studying in both Ireland and in the UK. Her particular areas of interest are in Glaucoma, Dry Eyes and Paediatric Optometry.

Nuala has volunteered twice with Vision Aid Overseas in Africa.

She strongly believes that educating her younger patients and their parents on how best to care for their eyes is an important part of her work. Having been asked to speak to children in several local schools, she is always delighted to share her knowledge.

OPTOMETRIST

Tara

A senior Optometrist, Tara joined the practice in 2005 and has been looking after our patients since. Tara graduated from Bradford University qualifying as an Optometrist in 1992 and began her career in Leicester Royal Infirmary. She volunteered in Swaziland and Russia with Vision Aid Overseas. Tara, as a Mother of two young children, has a special interest in Myopia Management.

She recently volunteered to retrain as a Covid Vaccinator.
